India needs an ODM evolution !

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, that the country needs evolution instead of revolution, and the country’s history needs to be preserved while pursuing the path of development.

We at Ekkaa Electronics feel the same, because we know that India, is for sure going to be the future superpower in the world, and we say that because-  we as a nation are on the verge of becoming one of the emerging manufacturing destination for countries across the globe.

Like many, we as a country have learnt from our recent past, especially when we, like any other country, could not decouple itself from the Pandemic called Covid.

Like many, we as a country have learnt from our recent past, especially when we, like any other country, could not decouple itself from the Pandemic called Covid.

As a result, our manufacturers had to face the bottlenecks from the supply side, as the same was cut-off from China in Q1 2020, sadly our economy dipped by 23.9% globally in Q2 2020. But, post the world-wide vaccination drive, the world started to open up with a new belief of creating a new sustainable world.

And, India’s ODM vertical too began its march towards transformative technology, because like any other industry, ODM industry too thrives on innovation, as it is critical to its success of receiving orders to meet the demand for novel features and products, doing so Indian companies could offer end-to-end services -right from the product design & development, to component sourcing and fabrication, to manufacturing, logistics and after sales.

However, only fewer companies in India provide end-to-solutions, which is why the Smart Television manufacturing Industry is currently more lucrative than it has ever been.

We say this because, looking at the current scenario, both global and domestic ODM manufacturers have started to walk together- more on the lines of our PM’s initiative – “Make in India” & are therefore focusing on meeting the demands of the domestic market, as seek a larger pie of the International market, by exporting to the neighbouring countries.

As a result Smart Television manufacturers in India have been acquiring key software licences for value addition in domestic manufacturing of TVs. Such licences are key for contract manufacturers in our country, as they will help them to graduate from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to original design manufacturers (ODMs).

Doing so, Indian companies would no longer have to pay the Chinese ODMs for all the key components like – open-cell display, LED lights, and cabinets.

And, if the production linked incentive is given by the government to the Television makers in India, then they could fasten up their investments in R&D & add more value in design.

This would mean that we manufacturers could develop a value- chain in the next 4 to 5 years, we could then take on the Chinese companies who currently dominate the global market.

Hence, the evolution of the Indian ODM industry is the need of the hour.
